XTC Mummer (2022 UK limited edition 10-track LP pressed on 200-gram Super-Heavyweight Vinyl newly cut from masters approved by Andy Partridge. Unavailable on vinyl for decades, XTC's sixth studio album Mummer returns in a newly restored audiophile edition, complete with its original - yet never previously used - sleeve artwork. Originally released in 1983, the album marked a defining turning point: their first as a studio-only band after retiring from live performance. Freed from the constraints of touring, XTC embraced a widescreen approach to arrangement and production, exploring textures and ideas unconcerned with how they might translate onstage. The result is one of the band's most detailed and exploratory records, signalling the shift from the nervy post-punk and tightly wound pop of White Music, Go2, Drums and Wires, Black Sea, and English Settlement toward the expansive, meticulously crafted sound that would later culminate in Skylarking and beyond. Though the album did not achieve the commercial impact hoped for - despite strong singles and positive press - its reputation has grown steadily, now widely regarded as an essential chapter in XTC's evolution.
