JOY DIVISION Closer (2015 UK/EU limited edition 9-track LP pressed on 180-gram heavyweight black vinyl, cut from the 2007 remasters. Originally released in July 1980 and considered to be an essential album in the post-punk movement, Closer displays more keyboard textures than its predecessor, with a more sombre tone lyrically, echoing singer Ian Curtis' unravelling state of mind, but also having a dark beauty of its own. Produced by Martin Hannett, it arrived just twomonths after the death of singer and lyricist Ian Curtis, giving its stark, elegiac tone even greater poignancy. The record reached No. 6 on the UK Albums Chart and was named NME's Album of the Year in 1980. Today, it stands as one of the most significant works of the post-punk era, its haunting atmosphere blending sparse guitars, fractured rhythms, and increased use of keyboards to create an austere, yet deeply affecting soundscape.
