ALBERT AYLER Holy Ghost: Rare & Unissued Recordings [1962-70] (Limited Edition 2004 US TEN CD Box Set, the first comprehensive set constructing a monument in sound to Ayler, including his previously unheard first & last recordings bookending sessions from every stage of his career. The bonus disc features Ayler as a member of the U.S Army Band & is housed in its own custom printed wallet. All discs are housed in a lavish 'Spirit Box' cast from the handcarved original, complete with a 208-page full colour hardbound book containing extensive essays, previously unpublished photos & family memorabilia, artist testimonials & an exhaustive chronology of his performance activities. Comes complete with a picture insert of Ayler with saxophone from his youth, a photostat of a handwritten note from a Copenhagen hotel, a reprinted copy of a Slugs flyer which includes a listing for a week of Ayler's quintet, a reprinted 1965 pamphlet by the late poet Paul Haines entitled Ayler-Peacock-Murray-You & The Night & The Music, a reprinted newsletter from 1969 by Jihad Productions with excerpts about Ayler plus a dried flower! Complete with the outer obi-style strip, the packaging is Excellent with minimal shelf wear & the discs are in Excellent condition with very little play - An incredible set! RVN213)
